Double Oscar Winner “Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy” is again nominated for her Three Emmy Documentary “The Girl in the River”. In 2015 this documentary based on honor killing of women and country’s harsh judiciary system was released. It touches the story of an 18-year-old woman, Saba, who was shot by her relatives to use their family honor, and dumped into a river. She miraculously survived to disclose her story. The subject of honor killings is not discussed significantly in Pakistan, mainly because most of the crimes go unreported and the victims remain unknown.
It has earned nominations for three categories including best documentary, outstanding short documentary, and outstanding music and sound.”Shaemeen Obaid Chinoy” is well known for her success by getting two Oscar Awards.
Moreover “Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy” made animated movies in Pakistan “3 Bahadur” and “3 Bahadur (The revenge)”. “Saving face” was also her great effort based on acid attack on women. She is a journalist, filmmaker and activist also. We wish her all the best for these nominations.
